The LG G6 fetures a FullVision display with curved corners and an unusual resolution of 1440 x 2880 pixels (QHD+), a diagonal size of 5.7 inches, and 18:9 aspect ratio. LG’s media player converts any media content on the phone to the 18:9 ratio. Protection is ensured by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
This is the first smartphone in the world to support HDR 10 and DolbyVision, which are some of the highest standards for visual quality in high-end smart TVs currently. “Big screen experience that fits in your hand”. It sits on top of a 7.9 mm thin aluminum alloy body with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the back. It is IP68 certified, i.e. the device is dust-proof and water splashes resistant. Despite the big screen, the body preserves a comfortable to handle size, perfect for one-hand usage. This design philosophy will trickle down to all future LG smartphones.
It has been already largely discussed that won’t be able to get the latest Qualcomm chipset, so indeed, it is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 MSM8996 Pro chipset. The latter packs a 2.35GHz quad-core Kryo CPU and an Adreno 530 GPU coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The model is powered by a 3300 mAh battery with wireless charging support and Quick Charge 3.0. On the rear packs two 13MP cameras – the secondary rear camera having a 120-degree wide-angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture and 2x optical zoom. The first packs an f/2.4 lens. They are aided by a dual LED flash, PDAF and laser autofocus. The front-facing shooter has a 100-degree wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP sensor. The lenses of the two cameras are protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4. For improved audio experience there’s a Hi-Fi Quad DAC amp. The smartphone runs Android 7.1 Nougat with LG’s latest UX 6.0 and supports 4G LTE Cat. 12 networks, Bluetooth 5.0. dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou. It is equipped with a USB Type-C 3.1 port with OTG support as well as an IR blaster. NFC and VoLTE support are on board as well along with a rounded fingerprint sensor placed on the back below the cameras. The device is available in white, black and grey colors. It will be officially launched on March 10 worldwide, except for the the US, where it will arrive in the beginning of April.
Huawei Honor 8
The new Huawei Honor 8 smartphone was unveiled in China, and the phone features a 5.2-inch 2.5D curved glass display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. Perhaps the most striking part of the phone is found on back, where a dual of 12MP camera set up is found. Both cameras sport laser auto focus and an aperture of f/2.2.
Besides the 2 cameras, the back of the Honor 8 includes a fingerprint sensor. Under the hood you’ll find some home cooking as the Kirin 950 chipset drives the device with an octa-core CPU and the Mali-T880 MP4 GPU. 3 variants of the phone are being offered. One comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage, while the other two feature 4GB of RAM with 32GB/64GB of internal memory. 128GB capacity microSD slot on board. The latter is part of a hybrid dual SIM tray.
