the chipset under the hood is the new 7nm chip called A12 Bionic, packed with 6.9 billion transistors. This is a 6-core CPU with 2 high-performance and 4 efficiency cores. It is coupled with a neural engine – an 8-core dedicated unit. An ISP, depth engine, video processor, always-on processor, display engine, etc. have found their way inside the A2 Bionic, which is the “smartest and most powerful chip ever on a smartphone”. It is paired with up to 512GB of built-in memory. CoreML, Apple’s machine learning platform, is going to get up to nine times faster. But it’s going to run with as little as 1/10th the energy. That’s at the core of augmented reality experiences.
